We want to make sure you succeed in your studies at Monash and fulfil all your academic requirements. However, we know that from time to time things come up that can affect your academic progress.
Academic integrity and what plagiarism, collusion and cheating mean
As a Monash student, you’ve joined a community that upholds integrity in all of its academic endeavours, and you’ve made a personal commitment to studying with academic integrity. This means that, whenever you work on an assignment or submit an assessment, you do so honestly, fairly, respectfully and responsibly.

Assessment at Monash
Assessment is an integral part of your studies. It’s much more than a critical step in passing your units. Completing assessments and receiving feedback allows you to track the progress of your academic performance, and find ways of improving it.
Defer or reschedule your scheduled final assessment (exam)
If you can’t complete a scheduled final assessment during the time it is set in Allocate+ due to exceptional circumstances, you can apply to defer it (or reschedule it if you’ve already deferred it).

Grade point average (GPA)
The Grade Point Average (GPA) is an internationally recognised calculation used to find the average result of all grades achieved throughout your course.

Results – reading your marks
This table outlines the Monash grading system, providing a key to results on the academic record (transcript) according to the year of study. You should also refer to the Grading Schema Procedure (pdf, 0.30 mb).
Extensions and special consideration
We understand that unexpected circumstances beyond your control may prevent you from completing your assessment. If this happens, you may be eligible to apply for more time. Your options will depend on the type of assessment and circumstances.
Supporting documents for special consideration
Make sure you provide the correct supporting documents as evidence of your exceptional or extreme circumstances when you apply for special consideration (for an extension, a deferred scheduled final assessment or a rescheduled deferred assessment).
Weighted average mark (WAM)
The Weighted Average Mark (WAM) is a more precise measurement of your academic performance than the Grade Point Average. This is because we base the calculation on your actual marks (eg: 78, 89, 63, 48 and so on) and the year level of each unit. Therefore, the WAM is the average mark you achieve across all completed units in a course, including any failed and repeated units. The WAM is out of 100.

Add or withdraw from units
It's important to check the census and penalty dates for your teaching period before withdrawing from a unit, or you may face academic and financial penalties. These include having a fail recorded on your academic record and incurring fees or a loan debt.
What are census dates?
The census date is when the University finalises your enrolment. Once the census date has passed, you’re liable for fees and incur academic penalties.
Changing your enrolment
If you're an honours student, before making changes, you need to discuss changes to your enrolment with your supervisor or honours coordinator. Contact your faculty supervisor/coordinator.

An academic record (or transcript) is a formal record of your academic history at the University. You’ll get a free transcript, in digital format, when you graduate.
Census dates and teaching periods
You have until 11.59pm (Melbourne time) on the census date to withdraw from units without financial or academic penalty.

Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE)
A CoE is an official form that we provide to international students who need to apply for a student visa. It confirms you’re enrolled in a registered course and you’ve paid your enrolment fees, and displays the registration code and the start and end dates for your course.

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC)
International students on a student visa must have health cover for the length of their visa while studying in Australia. The Monash-preferred OSHC provider is Allianz Care Australia and the benefits of this policy include:

As an international student, you need a student visa (subclass 500) to study at Monash. If you’re a new student, you’ll need to apply for a student visa. If you’re a returning student, you’ll need to make sure your visa remains valid for the duration of your course.
