课程简介

This unit will enable you to develop knowledge and skills in counselling groups and individual members in a group. You will understand the role and strengths of group counselling to assist clients in diverse settings, such as school, community, and rehabilitation centres. Specific topics include group dynamics and processes, group theories, therapeutic techniques for effective group counselling, identifying appropriate group members, ethical issues associated with group counselling, and cultural sensitivity to the multicultural nature of group counselling in Malaysia. You will also have opportunities to reflect on your own attributes and personal development in relation to being an effective group counsellor.

教学方式

Active learning - You will be provided with the opportunity to engage with relevant literature and resources. Further, you will be encouraged to deepen your understanding of topic areas through collegial discussion and debate, and by participating in activities designed to extend your understanding. This unit utilises Experiential Learning Theory as a framework.

预期工作量

Minimum total expected workload equals 144 hours per semester comprising:

(a.) Contact hours for on-campus students:

• equivalent to 36 hours of engagement in online, face-to-face or blended platforms

(b) Additional requirements (all students):

• independent study to make up the required minimum hours during the semester.
