课程简介
This unit introduces the basic engineering statistical analysis and operations research techniques for engineers. Topics include modelling data, statistical inferences, correlations and simple linear regressions, linear programming, Simplex Method for linear programming, Duality Theory, and Sensitivity Analysis. The unit is oriented towards industrial engineering applications rather than mathematical development.

教学方式与预期工作量
教学方式
Active learning - • Hands-on learning through analysis and software to model the problem during class.
• Q&A learning activity, discussion with peers on the topics.
Simulation or virtual practice - You will apply an operations research and statistics software to a problem, generate and anaylse the data and provide a feasible and practical solution to the problem.
Enquiry-based learning - You will discuss the application of statistics and operations research for each problem, understand the data generated and provide feasible and practical solutions to the problems.
Case-based teaching - You will participate in discussions on industrial problems and case examples and understand the approach to the solution of the problems.
预期工作量
The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of 3-6 hours of scheduled learning activities and 6-9 hours of independent study per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher-directed learning, peer-directed learning and online engagement. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities.
