课程简介
This unit introduces you to the design of structural elements in concrete, steel, timber and masonry in accordance with design codes. You will understand the design processes for various structural components and how the fundamental engineering science led to the development of the current concrete, steel, timber and masonry design codes. You will learn about the overall behaviour of structural elements including beams, columns, beam-columns, braces, and connections under realistic design conditions. You will relate this knowledge of structural design to practical design problems in a project-based learning environment.

教学方式
Problem-based learning - In this unit, you will learn about the behaviour of steel, concrete, timber and masonry components under realistic design conditions and relate the knowledge of design to practical design problems in a problem-based learning environment.
Active learning - This unit is delivered in a flipped-learning mode in which content is supplied prior to the lecture through online resources. The lecture is then an active session in which the learning for the week is consolidated further by the application of problem-solving.
预期工作量
The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of 3-6 hours of scheduled learning activities and 6-9 hours of independent study per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher-directed learning, peer-directed learning and online engagement. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities.
