课程简介

Advanced methods for the design of structures considering both loading and strength aspects of design. Strength and serviceability design of continuous post-tensioned concrete members. Design and detailing of anchorage zones. Introduction to the plastic design concept for engineering practice, with particular reference to steel structures design; methods of plastic analysis from simple beams to complex frames. Introduction to yield line theory for reinforced concrete slabs; yield line solutions based on work equations. Lower bound solutions for reinforced concrete slabs using Hillerborg strip method.

  1. ULO1 Generate team-work reports on the analysis/design of concrete slabs and steel frames using laboratory results and theoretical analysis.
  2. ULO2 Identify the collapse mechanisms of reinforced concrete slabs and steel frames.
  3. ULO3 Design and analyse plastically reinforced concrete slabs using Hillerborg method and yield line theory.
  4. ULO4 Design and analyse the steel reinforced concrete structures using the strut-and-tie model method.
  5. ULO5 Describe the ultimate behaviour of basic structures and materials with reference to the theorems of plasticity.
  6. ULO6 Determine the plastic collapse load of beams and simple frames using both hand- and computer-based methods.

教学方式与预期工作量

教学方式

Problem-based learning - Learning in the unit is mainly through lectures, practice classes and online learning. Online learning resources are recorded and are available in advance of each class. Students are expected to have reviewed those online materials along with other resources on Moodle before coming to class. During the lectures, students will have an opportunity to ask questions related to the online recording resources if concepts need clarification.

预期工作量

The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of 3-6 hours of scheduled learning activities and 6-9 hours of independent study per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher-directed learning, peer-directed learning and online engagement. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities.
