课程简介
This unit examines contemporary practice in sustainable road traffic engineering. It takes a multi-modal approach to traffic engineering, exploring how to design and manage a transport system that encourages public transport, walking and cycling. It introduces the Safe System approach to road safety, traffic impact assessment, demand management approaches, intelligent transportation systems and the management of parking. Contemporary developments in traffic engineering are explored through the lens of improving the safety and sustainability of the road network system.

教学方式
Problem-based learning - The main learning approach is "problem-based learning" which requires you to be involved with classroom projects as a proactive learner. There are no right or wrong answers to many of the project questions. This does not imply that any answer is adequate. Some answers will be better than others as they achieve the criteria in a better way.
Active learning - The unit is delivered in a flipped classroom format which means that the lectures are recorded and are available in advanced of the class. You are expected to have reviewed that material along with other resources on Moodle before coming to class. Lecture material will not be repeated in class, although there will be an opportunity to ask questions if concepts need clarification. You will then apply that material in a range of activities in class. You are expected to come to class prepared to engage constructively in the classroom sessions.
预期工作量
The minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of 3-6 hours of scheduled learning activities and 6-9 hours of independent study per week. Scheduled activities may include a combination of teacher-directed learning, peer-directed learning and online engagement. Independent study may include associated readings, assessment and preparation for scheduled activities.
